Screening of !Women Art Revolution by Lynn Hershman Leeson
September 13, 2012, 6:00-8:30pm
at the Rhode Island School of Design Metcalf Auditorium
20 N. Main St., Providence, RI
The Hive Archive is excited to announce a screening of !Women Art Revolution by Lynn Hershman Leeson. A discussion will follow the screening, initiated by a conversation with artists Faith Wilding and Ju-Pong Lin and facilitated by Judith Tannenbaum.
Through intimate interviews, art, and rarely seen archival film and video footage, !Women Art Revolution reveals how the Feminist Art Movement fused free speech and politics to radically transform the art and culture of our times. Hundreds of hours of footage collected over 40 years chronicle the emergence of the first feminist art education program in Los Angeles, alternative art spaces and landmark exhibitions. The film makes crucial connections between the Feminist Art Movement and anti-war and civil rights movements. The original score by Carrie Brown and the music of Laurie Anderson, Janis Joplin, Sleater-Kinney, The Gossip, Erase Errata and Tribe 8 make a fantastic soundtrack. The film was selected by MOMA in New York as one of the 3 best documentaries of the year.
